Pricing and fees

Plate Circle keeps private number plate selling simple. Sellers list for free, and buyers pay a small premium once a sale is agreed. This page sets out who pays what, so both sides understand the costs before listing, bidding or making an offer.

Basic listings: free

  • Free to list, with no commission or success fee on a sale
  • Suitable for sellers who want to list a plate with no upfront cost
  • Limited to 5 free listings per account; additional plates need to be Premium
  • Standard visibility in marketplace results

Premium listings: £4.95/month per listing

Premium is priced per individual listing. Each Premium listing is its own £4.95/month recurring subscription, billed monthly until you cancel or the plate sells. Premium does two jobs: it gives a single listing featured placement and extra visibility, and it is how you list once you have used your five free listings. There is no cap on the number of Premium listings per account, so a seller with three Premium listings is billed 3 × £4.95/month.

  • £4.95/month per listing, billed monthly per individual listing
  • Boosted placement in marketplace search and browse results
  • Premium badge on your listing
  • Richer listing description
  • Featured placements in Plate Circle marketing where available
  • The route to list more than five plates on one account
  • Subscription cancels automatically when the listing sells or is removed

Buyer's premium: 3% at launch

When a sale is agreed, the buyer pays a 3% buyer's premium to Plate Circle. Once it is paid, buyer and seller details are exchanged and both parties can proceed with the sale and the DVLA transfer.

Important note

Plate Circle's fees do not remove the need for buyers and sellers to carry out appropriate checks before completing a sale.

Frequently asked questions

Are there any fees for sellers?
No. Listing a number plate on Plate Circle is free for sellers. There is no commission or success fee on a sale. The only optional seller cost is Premium at £4.95/month per listing (recurring subscription, billed per individual listing until you cancel) for extra visibility. The 3% buyer's premium is paid by the buyer, not the seller.
Can I list a number plate for free?
Yes. Plate Circle offers a free basic listing option, with a limit of 5 free listings per account. Additional plates can be added as Premium listings.
What does a Premium listing cost?
Premium listings are £4.95/month per listing (recurring subscription, billed per individual listing until you cancel). Premium adds featured placement and a Premium badge for as long as the subscription is active, and it is also the way to list once you have used your five free listings. There is no cap on the number of Premium listings per account; each one is its own £4.95/month subscription. When a Premium listing sells or is removed, its subscription cancels automatically.
What is the buyer's premium?
At launch, the buyer's premium is 3% of the agreed sale price. It is paid to Plate Circle by the buyer once a sale is agreed, before buyer and seller details are exchanged.
