1 SJ private number plate

1 SJ is a distinctive three-character dateless registration. As the number 1, it represents the pinnacle for any associated initials; this is a significant marker of desirability and exclusivity that typically elevates its appeal above comparable registrations starting with higher numbers. The short, clean format of NLL (one number followed by two letters) also contributes to its classic appearance, a characteristic of early registration styles that collectors often favour.

The initials SJ are considered very strong, suggesting a broad appeal to individuals whose first or surname begins with these letters. Such registrations frequently interest buyers seeking a personal and recognisable mark, aligning with common motivations for acquiring a private plate. The "number 1 plate" and "initials" tags highlight its prime appeal for those prioritising personal significance and recognition.

This specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 1992. It sold for £15,000 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £19,388. The dateless format has the clean look associated with registrations from an earlier era, and the two-letter identifier SJ originated from Glasgow (Bute / Ayr) in Scotland.
