1 WXG private number plate

1 WXG presents a format that, though new to the market, echoes the desirable style of earlier dateless registrations. Released via DVLA auction in 2021, its concise four-character layout and the foremost position of the number 1 immediately mark it out. It sold for £7,010 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £9,001. The arrangement, with a single number followed by three letters, offers a clean and immediately readable appearance, a characteristic often sought after in private registrations.

The number 1 holds a unique and significant position in the hierarchy of private registrations, particularly when paired with initials. When 1 is the leading character, it often signifies the pinnacle for any set of initials, representing a distinct advantage over subsequent numbers. This plate offers the "WXG" initials, which, while perhaps not broadly popular, can hold significant personal meaning for their owner. The limited demand associated with "WXG" means this plate has the potential to offer a particularly personal and bespoke identity.

In terms of market appeal, the strength of this registration lies in its combination of a highly desirable number 1 with a compact, dateless-style format. Historically, shorter registrations have tended to attract strong interest, and the upfront placement of the number 1 is a recognised factor in desirability. The presence of three letters following the number 1 provides a clear initials block.

This registration was first released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2021. It is a four-character dateless-style registration.
