1982 AV private number plate

1982 AV is a six-character dateless registration with a four-number, two-letter format. The number sequence 1982 may appeal for its year-like reading, potentially relating to a birth year, anniversary or significant date. The letters AV provide a simple yet strong initial pairing, and these initials have mid-market popularity, suggesting a reasonable breadth of potential interest.

For dateless registrations, the format of numbers-first, as seen here, is a classic and recognisable style. While the earliest dateless plates often featured letters first, numbers first registrations also carry a distinct appeal and are highly collectible. This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2023. It sold for £12,600 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £16,178.
