1989 S private number plate

The 1989 S registration offers a clean, concise five-character format of four numbers followed by a single letter. This dateless plate presents a clear structure, with the number 1989 preceding the letter S. Such a combination is likely to appeal to individuals seeking a straightforward and easily recognisable registration.

As a dateless registration, 1989 S does not display a year identifier, providing a timeless look. The inclusion of a single letter at the end also contributes to its compact and memorable appeal. Dateless plates, particularly those with fewer characters, are generally associated with the earliest registration eras and carry a distinct collector interest due to their historical format.

The number 1989 itself may hold significance for some, potentially relating to a birth year, anniversary, or other notable date. The single letter following, S, can serve as a personal initial, aligning with the strong motivation for acquiring a private registration identified in motorist surveys, where personal connections are the leading reason for consideration. This plate's directness and its potential for personal connection make it a strong contender for those valuing a customised look for their vehicle.

This specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in April 2023. It sold for £11,630 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £14,933.
