About private number plate 2 OLD
The registration 2 OLD features a short, four-character dateless format with one number followed by three letters. It was first released to the open market via DVLA auction in 1992. It sold for £5,100 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £6,592.
The numerical element, 2, is a single digit, which typically carries more appeal than double, triple, or quadruple digits for comparable registration styles. Fewer digits create a shorter and cleaner registration mark. The letters OLD are mid-market initials, appealing to a broad range of potential buyers.
The clean look of 2 OLD is shared with plates originally issued in the period from 1953 to 1963. The design language, with a number appearing before the letters, is a reversal of the more common letters-first dateless format.
Plate Circle brings together number plate history, value context, for sale listings, spotted records and verified sold-price history where available.
