24 YY private number plate

24 YY is a distinct dateless registration with a short, appealing four character format. It comprises two numbers followed by two letters, presenting a clean and easily readable layout. The repetition of the letter Y adds a memorable symmetry to the registration, giving it a strong aesthetic appeal. This format is highly sought after for its compact nature, often favoured by those seeking a distinctive and uncluttered presentation.

The registration is particularly suited to buyers looking for personal initials. The 'YY' sequence provides a direct and clear visual representation for anyone with those initials. While 'YY' is categorised as having niche to low demand initials, their direct pairing with a low number such as 24 offers a strong visual composition that can appeal to a specific buyer base. Dateless registrations like 24 YY do not show a year identifier, contributing to their clean and timeless look. These types of plates are generally perceived as more desirable due to their historical association and inherent rarity.

This particular registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2020. It sold for £6,160 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £7,909. The format of two numbers followed by two letters, particularly with repeating characters, is often seen as having good visual appeal. Shorter registrations tend to attract interest, and the 24 YY format, being only four characters long, fits this preference.
