40 OY private number plate

40 OY is a four-character dateless UK private registration. The plate has a short, clean format, presenting two numbers followed by two letters. Its layout is a direct "numbers-first" style, commonly associated with earlier registration eras and sought after for its compact appearance. The OY initial combination is considered to have lower popularity, suggesting a more exclusive appeal.

The registration OY was originally issued in the London NW (Croydon) area. Dateless registrations such as this do not show a year identifier, giving them a timeless look that appeals to many buyers. The four-character length and the clear two-by-two character structure contribute to its visual simplicity and memorability. Short, dateless plates are a foundational element of the personalised registration market.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2018. It sold for £3,100 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £4,018.
