42 OB private number plate

42 OB is a four character, dateless registration with a two numbers followed by two letters format. Its short, clean layout is highly appealing, particularly as dateless registrations do not show a year identifier, offering a timeless look. The registration comprises the number 42 followed by the initials OB.

Established dateless registrations such as 42 OB have a distinct appeal, rooted in the earliest eras of UK vehicle registration. The format of two numbers followed by two letters, where the numbers appear first, is associated with an earlier period of issue. These registrations are sought after for their historical character and the visual simplicity that distinct eras of numbering and lettering produced.

The initials OB represent a set with decent appeal, indicating a broad potential audience within the UK market. Dateless registrations generally hold significant collector interest, driven by their relative rarity and the clean aesthetic they provide. The number 42, while not number 1, is an attractive lower number within its band, contributing to the overall desirability.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2022. It sold for £11,760 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £15,100.
