5 WLS private number plate

5 WLS is a four-character dateless registration that begins with a low number. Its format of one number followed by three letters, specifically one number followed by three letters, is highly recognisable. As a dateless plate, it has the clean look associated with registrations issued between 1953 and 1963. The number 5 at the beginning gives it a compact feel and contributes to its distinctiveness.

The WLS initials themselves are a good foundation for personalised ownership, appealing to individuals seeking a straightforward yet meaningful registration. While the initials are not exceptionally rare, they offer a broad base for potential buyers, aligning with the finding that personal names or initials are the leading motivation for acquiring a private registration. This plate's short, four-character layout also enhances its desirability, as shorter registrations are generally more sought after.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2022. It sold for £7,860 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £10,092.
