5 XOX private number plate

The short dateless UK private registration 5 XOX features a single number followed by three letters. Its format is compact, comprising only four characters, which contributes to its streamlined visual presentation. The primary appeal of 5 XOX lies in its prominent number 5, combined with the distinct XOX initials. The letter XOX has niche to low demand as initials, appealing to a specific audience rather than a broad market. The number 5 can also visually substitute for an S, offering a potential alternative reading where the registration could represent S XOX.

This specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2022. It sold for £6,210 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £7,974. The dateless format, featuring a number followed by letters, is a style broadly associated with registrations from around 1953 to 1963. Registrations with fewer digits and lower numbers generally tend to be more sought after than those with more digits or higher numbers, and this applies to single digits from 2 to 9, which tend to have stronger appeal than double or triple-digit numbers. The brief length of 5 XOX further enhances its appeal.
