8 ASU private number plate

8 ASU is a four-character dateless registration with a number-first layout. The format of one number followed by three letters is clean and concise, offering a strong visual presence. As a dateless registration, it does not show a year identifier, contributing to the timeless look associated with this style of UK private number plate.

The registration leads with the number 8, a low single digit that generally carries stronger appeal than higher numbers or multi-digit sequences. The subsequent letters ASU present a clear initials opportunity. Dateless registrations of this format, where the numbers precede the letters, are associated with an earlier period of registration issue and have a distinct collector interest.

This registration could appeal to buyers looking for personal initials. The ASU combination is described as having niche to low demand, suggesting a degree of rarity for those with a connection to these specific letters. Based on a DVLA survey, personal names or initials are the leading reason for motorists considering a private registration, indicating a broad audience for this type of personalised plate.

The registration 8 ASU was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2021. It sold for £7,010 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £9,001.
