8 OFF private number plate

The registration 8 OFF is a four-character dateless plate with a single number followed by three letters. This format, a combination of a low number and three letters, has the clean look associated with dateless registrations and is generally more sought after than registrations with more characters. The number 8, being a standalone low number, contributes to the plate's distinctive appeal. The initials OFF offer a straightforward reading, potentially appealing to individuals or businesses seeking a personal identifier.

This style of registration, with a number at the beginning followed by letters, is also typically more desirable than its letters-first counterpart, owing to its association with earlier issue periods. The format itself first appeared around the mid-20th century, with registrations issued in this manner before being phased out. As a dateless registration, 8 OFF does not show a year identifier, allowing it to be displayed on any vehicle without conveying its age. The plate was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2015. It sold for £4,200 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £5,443.
