8 OYS private number plate

8 OYS is a four-character dateless registration with a numbers-first format. The registration's clean layout, featuring a single digit followed by three letters, contributes to its appeal. As a dateless plate, it does not show a year identifier, offering the timeless look associated with registrations from this era.

The number 8 is a low number within the 2 to 9 band, which generally carries stronger appeal. The plate's structure, with one number followed by three letters, also aligns with desirable formats. Such registrations are typically sought after by individuals looking for a concise and memorable identifier, often for personal use. The initials OYS represent a niche yet potentially appealing combination for someone seeking a personal connection to their registration.

Dateless registrations of this format are historically significant. They are associated with an era of vehicle registration that predates the current system, offering a distinct aesthetic and a sense of established ownership. This type of registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2001. It sold for £5,200 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £6,721.
