8 TAY private number plate

8 TAY is a distinct dateless registration with a clean, four-character format. The registration presents as one number followed by three letters, a style that has historically held strong appeal for buyers. Dateless plates of this nature do not show a year identifier, contributing to their timeless look and making them a popular choice for personalising a vehicle.

This format, one number followed by three letters, is broadly associated with the period between 1953 and 1963. Within the dateless category, registrations with fewer characters, such as this four-character example, are generally considered more sought after. The appeal of such plates often lies in their shortness and visual clarity.

The combination of the number 8 and the initials TAY offers potential for personal significance. While "TAY" itself is not a recognised word or name, the initials are likely to hold meaning for the owner, aligning with the strong buyer preference for registrations that represent personal connections, as indicated by DVLA surveys. The number 8, a single digit appearing at the start of the registration, is also generally more desirable than higher-numbered sequences in dateless plates.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2020. It sold for £4,760 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £6,112.
