8 XJB private number plate

The registration 8 XJB presents a clean, four-character format with a single number followed by three letters. This one number followed by three letters layout is a popular choice, offering a compact and easily recognisable appearance that gives it the timeless look associated with dateless registrations. The format itself is distinct from current style plates, which do not show a year identifier.

This plate's appeal is primarily driven by its short length and the potential for personal initials. With just four characters, it offers a streamlined and uncluttered presentation. The number 8 is a standalone low digit, and while it does not offer a strong visual reading on its own, it contributes to the overall brevity of the registration. The initials XJB provide a solid foundation for personal relevance, being a standard combination likely to appeal to individuals with those initials.

In terms of buyer appeal, registrations featuring initials are frequently sought after, with a DVLA survey indicating a very high percentage of motorists purchase private plates for personal connection. The compact, dateless format of 8 XJB also aligns with general desirability for shorter registrations.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2018. It sold for £1,800 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £2,333.
