81 AST private number plate

81 AST is a five-character dateless registration in a two-numbers followed by three-letters format. Its clean, abbreviated style is typical of the earliest UK number plates, and it has the timeless look associated with dateless registrations. The plate carries the initials AST, which are considered to have decent popularity, meaning a larger potential buyer pool.

Dateless registrations, such as 81 AST, do not show a year identifier, contributing to their enduring appeal. The format itself, with fewer characters, presents a concise and recognisable registration. This style is particularly favoured by collectors and those seeking a distinctive mark that stands apart from more contemporary formats.

The 81 AST registration is noted for its potential buyer appeal relating to the 'ST' element within the letters, which may interest owners or enthusiasts of performance vehicle lines. This aspect, combined with the initials AST, offers distinct personalisation opportunities.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2023. It sold for £11,360 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £14,586.
