About private number plate 88 PU
The registration 88 PU is a compact dateless plate, featuring a desirable two-number, two-letter format. The numerical element, 88, features a repeated digit, which creates a symmetrical visual appeal that can be attractive to collectors or those seeking a graphic quality. While 8 is a single digit, the repetition of it produces a double-digit number that remains low in value.
The initials PU have niche to low demand, appealing mainly to individuals who find a direct match. The short, four-character layout of the plate contributes to its clean and memorable appearance, a characteristic often sought after in private registrations. Registrations of this format, with letters appearing after numbers, are sometimes described as reverse dateless plates.
The plate was released to the open market via DVLA auction in May 2019. It sold for £2,700 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £3,499.
Plate Circle brings together number plate history, value context, for sale listings, spotted records and verified sold-price history where available.
