88 XD private number plate

88 XD is a four character dateless registration with two numbers followed by two letters. Its short format and repeating identical digits give it a strong visual appeal. The plate features double eights, creating a symmetrical and memorable visual rhythm. This kind of repetition often strengthens collector interest due to its distinctive appearance.

As a dateless registration, 88 XD does not display a year identifier, contributing to the clean, timeless look associated with privately owned plates from earlier eras. The 'XD' initials offer potential for personal significance, appealing to individuals seeking a registration that reflects their identity or a chosen name. The two-digit number 88 is generally considered more desirable than higher numbers within its band, and its position at the start of the plate maintains a clear visual hierarchy. Furthermore, dateless registrations from the earlier issue periods, particularly those with a numbers-first layout as seen here, often hold significant collector appeal.

This specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in August 2023. It sold for £11,390 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £14,625.
