9 HMR private number plate

9 HMR is a four-character dateless registration with a single number followed by three letters. This one number followed by three letters format, associated with dateless registrations issued between circa 1953 and 1963, has the timeless look of earlier registration styles. While it does not display a year identifier, its short, clean format is highly appealing to those seeking a distinctive personal registration.

The number 9 is a low single digit, generally considered more sought after within the dateless category due to its inherent rarity and shorter visual presence. Paired with the initials HMR, this registration offers a strong combination of numerical scarcity and personalised letter potential. The initials HMR are considered mid-market in popularity, indicating a broad potential buyer pool.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2020. It sold for £3,730 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £4,789. Collector interest in dateless registrations, particularly those with short formats and desirable initials, remains robust.
