9 NSB private number plate

9 NSB is a four-character dateless registration in a number-letter format. Dateless plates, typically issued before 1963, possess a clean, uncluttered aesthetic valued by many collectors. The short format contributes to its directness and visual appeal.

This registration format, with a single digit followed by three letters, aligns with a pattern historically associated with registrations that have a finite supply. The low number 9 offers a prominent, easily recognisable start to the plate, while the NSB initials provide a clear personal element. Such combinations are often sought by buyers looking for a distinct identity for their vehicle.

Dateless registrations from this era are a particular class of UK private registration, originating from a period before the current letter-number system was introduced. The format of 9 NSB, specifically its numbers-first layout, is one of the styles seen during the early days of vehicle registration in the UK. This particular registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2019. It sold for £6,600 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £8,554.
