About private number plate 97 EG
97 EG is a compact, four-character dateless registration. Its straightforward two-by-two format of numbers followed by letters offers a clean and easily recognisable appearance. Dateless registrations provide a timeless look, as they do not display a year identifier.
This registration uses the EG initials. Initials-based plates are popular for personal use, with a DVLA survey indicating that matching a person's name or initials is the leading motivation for purchasing a private registration. The desirability of dateless registrations is also noted in specialist discussions, which describe the earliest, very short formats as the most sought after. The number 97 itself within the "10 to 99" range is generally considered more appealing than higher numbers, and shorter formats are typically preferred.
The EG area code is associated with Peterborough (Huntingdon) and the historic registration authority under the pre-2001 system.
Plate Circle brings together number plate history, value context, for sale listings, spotted records and verified sold-price history where available.
