APE 6 private number plate

APE 6 is a four-character dateless registration. This format, with three letters followed by a single number, is associated with the earliest eras of UK vehicle registration, and its brevity contributes to a clean, impactful appearance. As a dateless plate, it does not show a year identifier, giving it the timeless look associated with cherished registrations. Its simple and memorable structure is a key aspect of its appeal.

The number 6 is a low number, and registrations with single digits are generally more sought after than those with double or triple digits. The initials APE are considered to have decent popularity, suggesting a broader potential audience for this registration. Such combinations are often acquired for personal significance, aligning with the primary motivation for many private plate purchases.

APE 6 is a cherished registration. Cherished registrations are pre-1963 mainland dateless plates and are highly valued by collectors due to their historical significance and scarcity. This particular registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2008. It sold for £2,800 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £3,537.
