AYA 9N private number plate

The suffix registration AYA 9N offers a concise five-character format, combining three letters with a number and a final letter. Issued in the era of suffix registrations, the format was in use between August 1974 and July 1975. This specific registration, AYA 9N, was released to the open market in 2024 via a DVLA auction.

The '9' in AYA 9N represents a low single-digit number, a feature that generally holds collector interest. The letters AYA comprise an initials set with niche, low-demand popularity, meaning a potentially narrower but dedicated pool of buyers. The number 9 is visually suggestive of the letter G.

This registration benefits from the general collector appeal associated with shorter formats. Five-character registrations, such as AYA 9N, offer a clean visual aesthetic compared to longer formats, while the 3x2 character layout provides a balanced appearance. The suffix format itself is recognisable and distinct, and this particular registration was first entered into circulation through a DVLA auction in 2024. It sold for £22,500 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £28,890.
