AYD 5N private number plate

AYD 5N is a suffix-style UK private number plate, featuring three letters followed by a number and a letter, for a total of five characters. The suffix format was first introduced in August 1974, though this specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2026. It sold for £13,300 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £16,439.

The plate offers a recognisable initials reading. The sequence AYD could represent initials for a person, while the single letter N can be combined to form a stronger identifier. This kind of personal connection is a primary driver for many private plate acquisitions, aligning with purchaser motivation surveys where names and initials are the leading reasons for consideration.

The number 5 is present within the registration. As per the standard hierarchy of desirability for numbers within private plates, single digits like the 5 are generally considered to have stronger appeal than higher numbers, and a shorter registration format also tends to be favoured for its cleaner visual presentation.

AYD 5N was first released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2026.
