IG 70 private number plate

IG 70 presents as a compact four-character registration in an two letters followed by two numbers format. This dateless style, originating from Northern Ireland, offers a clean and timeless appearance, unburdened by year identifiers. The digits 70 are a low number within their sequence, and the two-by-two structure of letters followed by numbers is a well-regarded layout.

The registration could appeal to owners of certain performance vehicles, as the "GTO" reading is associated with models from Mazda, Mitsubishi, and Subaru JDM marques. This direct mirroring of a recognised model designation offers a strong motoring angle.

Dateless registrations like IG 70, particularly those with fewer characters, are typically sought after for their visual appeal and simplicity. The initials IG, estimated as mid-market in popularity by Plate Circle, represent a solid base for personal identification, suggesting a broader potential buyer pool compared to rarer initials. The DVLA has noted that personal connections, such as initials, are a primary motivation for acquiring private registrations.

This particular registration made its debut on the open market through a DVLA auction in April 2023. It sold for £6,760 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £8,680.
