MOS 3 private number plate

MOS 3 is a dateless private registration with a short, four-character format. Its 'three letters followed by one number' layout, with three letters followed by a single number, has a clean, recognisable appearance. The number 3 is a very low single digit, contributing to its distinctiveness and collector appeal within the dateless category.

As a cherished registration, MOS 3 does not show a year identifier and has the clean look associated with registrations from the earliest eras of UK vehicle marking. While specific issue dates for individual dateless plates are not recorded, registrations of this style are broadly associated with the period from the early 1930s to the mid-1950s.

The initials MOS are considered to have strong appeal. Such initial combinations are popular with individuals seeking a personal connection to their registration, aligning with a leading motivation for private plate ownership. The short, four-character length is also a key factor in desirability, offering a more streamlined and impactful presentation on a vehicle.

MOS 3 was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2003. It sold for £5,800 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £7,326.
