NHB 4 private number plate

NHB 4 is a short, four-character dateless registration. Its layout of three letters followed by a single number gives it a distinct and clean aesthetic, a characteristic that tends to appeal to collectors. The number 4, being a very low number, adds to its inherent desirability within the dateless format.

Dateless registrations, particularly those with fewer characters, originate from a time before year identifiers were introduced. This means NHB 4 does not show a year identifier and has the timeless look associated with dateless registrations. Registrations from this era, typically issued between 1932 and 1953, often carry a distinct historical and collector appeal. NHB 4 was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2018, establishing its presence in the modern market. It sold for £4,200 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £5,443.

The initials NHB provide a broad base of potential personal appeal. While not exceptionally rare, these initials are popular enough to suggest a decent potential buyer pool, aligning with survey data indicating personal connection as a primary motivation for private registration acquisition. The compact four-character format, featuring a single digit at the end, naturally lends itself to clear recognition and memorability.
