ONS 1 private number plate

ONS 1 is a four-character dateless registration. Its short, clean format makes it highly desirable, with the number 1 positioned at the end. As the definitive number for any initial set, number 1 plates are significantly more sought after than those with higher numbers.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2018. It sold for £5,900 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £7,646. Its format, consisting of three letters followed by a single number, is characteristic of dateless plates issued in the mid-20th century. This style does not show a year identifier and has the timeless look associated with early UK number plates.

The "ONS" initials offer broad appeal for personal use. Buyers considering a private registration often prioritise matching their own name or initials, as indicated by DVLA surveys. The combination of a strong initial set and the pinnacle number 1 creates a highly collectable registration.

The "ONS 1" format directly mirrors the designation for certain high-performance Audi Sport models. This could appeal to owners and enthusiasts of the Audi Sport Quattro, Ur-Quattro, and S1 variants, adding a motoring dimension to its appeal.
