SSS 3 private number plate

SSS 3 is a striking four-character private registration with a clean, dateless format. Its appeal lies in its short layout and the distinct repetition of its initial letters, offering a memorable visual presence. As a dateless registration, it does not show a year identifier, contributing to its clean look associated with classic plates.

The number 3 is a low digit, which typically carries stronger appeal. The format is three letters followed by one number, a desirable 3x1 configuration that is easy to read and visually balanced. The repetition of SSS enhances its distinctive character, potentially increasing its memorability and collector interest. This combination of a short, dateless format with repeating letters and a low number makes it a compelling option for those seeking a unique registration.

This registration is classified as cherished due to its pre-1963 dateless format. Such plates typically hold significant historical and collector interest, especially those with letters-first sequences that are associated with the earliest registration eras. SSS 3 was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2003. It sold for £10,400 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £13,136.
