XEJ 1 private number plate

XEJ 1 is a four-character dateless registration with a highly sought-after format. The number 1 holds a unique position on UK private number plates, representing the pinnacle of desire for any initials set, making XEJ 1 significantly more desirable than the equivalent XEJ 2. This shorter, cleaner layout, with its letters-first arrangement, has the timeless look associated with earlier registration eras, though this specific registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2022. It sold for £6,850 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £8,795.

The initials XEJ are considered niche with lower demand, suggesting a more exclusive appeal. However, the absolute desirability of the number 1 for a set of initials, combined with its short dateless format, elevates its market presence. The plate XEJ 1 entered circulation through a DVLA auction in 2022. Analysis of sold registrations suggests that shorter formats and the presence of the number 1 generally generate considerable collector interest.
