XLZ 7 private number plate

XLZ 7 is a four-character dateless registration. It features three letters followed by a single-digit number (three letters followed by one number format). This shorter, dateless style offers a clean aesthetic, which tends to enhance collector appeal. The number 7, as a single digit, is generally considered to have stronger appeal than higher-value numbers in comparable formats.

As a dateless registration from Northern Ireland, specifically associated with Armagh, XLZ 7 benefits from the strong visual continuity of earlier UK registration systems. While it does not display a year identifier, its format has the clean look associated with dateless registrations, offering a timeless appeal.

The initials XLZ may hold personal significance. The appeal for initial-based registrations is well-supported, with DVLA surveys consistently showing a primary motivation for buyers being the ability to secure a name or initial. The popularity of initials XLZ is estimated to be within the niche to lower demand bracket, suggesting a degree of rarity.

XLZ 7 was first released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2018. It sold for £1,700 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £2,203.
