Y99 NOX private number plate

Y99 NOX is a six-character prefix registration. This format typically features one letter, followed by two numbers, and then three letters. The prefix era began in 1983, replacing the earlier suffix system. The current registration system, with its regional memory tags, was introduced in September 2001, with Y99 NOX falling within the earliest period of this new format.

The registration Y99 NOX incorporates repeated identical digits, with the double 9. This repetition can enhance visual appeal and memorability, often appealing to collectors who favour such symmetrical patterns. The numerical element of 99 positions this plate within the double-digit band, which is generally more sought after than higher triple or four-digit numbers. The letters NOX are considered niche in terms of popularity, suggesting a rarer but potentially dedicated buyer pool.
