About private number plate 2 AX
The 2 AX registration, released to the open market via DVLA auction in 1993, is a short dateless plate with a single number followed by two letters. It sold for £2,600 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £3,361. Its three-character length contributes to a clean and straightforward appearance.
The layout features the number 2, which as a single digit is generally considered more sought after than longer numbers. For an initials plate, the single-digit numbers 2 to 9, particularly lower values such as 2, tend to have stronger appeal than double or triple-digit numbers. This shorter format and lower number generally produce a cleaner registration. The AX initials could appeal to individuals with those personal letters.
Historically, the AX code was used for registrations issued in Cardiff (Monmouthshire), in Wales.
Plate Circle brings together number plate history, value context, for sale listings, spotted records and verified sold-price history where available.
