5 WG private number plate

5 WG is a captivating three-character dateless registration, presented in a clean and direct number-letter layout. This format, a single digit followed by two letters, is often sought after for its brevity and distinctiveness, setting it apart from longer, more contemporary registrations. Such short plates possess a timeless appeal, echoing the earliest days of vehicle registration in the UK.

The number 5 leads the registration, offering visual appeal as a low, standalone number. When paired with the initials WG, it forms a concise and memorable three-character mark. The initials WG themselves are considered to have mid-market popularity, suggesting a broad base of potential interest from individuals whose names or brands incorporate these letters.

As a dateless registration, 5 WG has the clean look associated with classic formats. Such registrations do not show a year identifier, allowing them to be associated with any vehicle without indicating its age. The format itself, one number followed by two letters, was among the earliest styles issued and is generally more desirable than comparable plates with numbers first.

This particular registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 1993. It sold for £3,300 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £4,265.
