654 N private number plate

The four-character registration 654 N presents a clean, numbers-first dateless format. Its compact layout is a popular characteristic for private number plates, offering a pleasing visual balance. The sequence 654 forms a descending run, which can add a notable point of interest for collectors. The single letter N at the end offers potential for a buyer seeking a specific initial.

Dateless registrations do not show a year identifier, giving them a timeless appeal. This style of registration is a format first seen in the early days of vehicle registration in the UK and has persisted as a desirable format. The registration 654 N originates from the Manchester area, identified by the historic code N.

The buyer motivation survey published in 2019 indicated that personal connection, particularly a name or initial, was the leading reason for acquiring a private registration, with a very high percentage of respondents showing this preference. The format of a short, four-character registration is also generally more sought after, as shorter plates tend to be more memorable and visually appealing.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in February 2019. It sold for £5,500 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £7,128.
