808 M private number plate

808 M is a four-character dateless registration with a three-number, one-letter layout. Its short format contributes to its visual appeal, offering a clean and direct appearance. The arrangement of numbers followed by a letter positions it within a recognisable style of dateless plates, which are often sought for their straightforward character.

The registration has the look of a mirror number, with 808 reflecting itself, a symmetry that can enhance its memorability. This palindromic quality, combined with its brevity, offers a distinct aesthetic. As a dateless registration, 808 M does not show a year identifier, giving it the timeless appeal associated with this classic plate category.

For potential buyers seeking a personal touch, 808 M offers the letter M as a prominent initial. Initials are a primary driver for personalised registrations, with many buyers looking for a plate that directly represents their name, a loved one's name, or a significant word or acronym. The concise nature of this four-character plate makes it a strong candidate for initial-based personalisation.

In terms of appeal, shorter registrations are generally more desirable, and 808 M fits this criterion. Dateless registrations, particularly those with a number-letter or letter-number structure, are historically popular due to their survival from the earliest eras of vehicle registration. While not a perfect name or word reading on its own, the impactful final letter M provides a clear focal point for initial-based interest.

This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in September 2023. It sold for £16,090 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £20,660.
