About private number plate 8 OV
8 OV is a short, three-character dateless registration that leads with a single number, followed by two letters. Its layout contributes to a clean and memorable appearance, a characteristic often associated with dateless registrations.
The single digit 8 in the leading position makes for a distinctive presentation. The letters OV can represent the personal initials of individuals with those letters in their name. The popularity of the initials OV is considered niche, suggesting a specific audience for its combination. This type of personalisation, centred on initials, is a common motivation for buyers seeking private registrations.
This registration was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2016. It sold for £15,500 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £20,088. The format, with a single number followed by two letters, is a classic style that does not show a year identifier.
Plate Circle brings together number plate history, value context, for sale listings, spotted records and verified sold-price history where available.
