8 XN private number plate

The 3-character registration 8 XN presents a strong, short format, which is highly desirable among collectors. Its straightforward number-then-letters layout is clean and memorable, offering the appeal of early registration styles without a year identifier.

As a dateless registration, 8 XN has the timeless look associated with the earliest vehicle markings in the UK. Short, dateless plates with a single number followed by two letters are particularly sought after, representing a finite and historically significant category of UK private registrations.

The number 8 at the start of the registration is a low number, which typically carries stronger appeal than higher numbers, especially within the dateless format. Combined with the two letters, it creates a concise and impactful registration.

This registration is suitable for those seeking a personal initials plate, with XN offering a distinct letter combination. The popularity of personal initials as a leading motivation for acquiring private registrations is well-documented, making this a key buyer angle.

The registration 8 XN was released to the open market via DVLA auction in 2024. It sold for £42,010 (hammer price). With auction fees, the estimated total paid by the buyer was £53,941.
